In researching my GG Grandmother Nancy Rebecca Wells, at age 8, was living with a Elder or Eldred & Zilpha Harper in the 1870 Newton Co. GA census.
In the 1860 Newton co. GA census, Nancy's parents(C. B. Wells & Martha Jane Slocum Wells) and siblings were living next door to
Eldred and Zilpha Harper.
In researching, I have found that Nancy's father, Cephus B. Wells fought and died in the 53rd GA Infantry probably abt. 1964-65.
I saw on this site that an E. Harper fought in the 53rd GA infantry as well.
Cephus and Eldred were neighbors,were the same age, possibly fought together in the Civil War, then in 1870 Cephus's daughter,(my GG Grandmother)was living with them. I'm curious if they were related or if they were good friends.
Do you have any information on this Harper or know any connection to the Wells or Slocum families of Newton and Walton co. GA? Nancy

My Grandfather was V.E. Harper he was 1 of 12 children Fathered by Jasper Harper born 1869 died 1957. Buried in Piney Grove Cemetary outside of Guntersville Alabama. The only survivor of the 12 Harper children is Flora Harper Stover of Gadsden Alabama.
