Hi there!
MY name is Wanda and I lived in Winterton about 31 years ago. I went to the Old Salvation Army school for Grade 2 and then all the churches immigrated into the old Gray United Church school. I went to Grade 3 there.
In grade 2, there were two classes in the one room. Grades 2 & 3 I believe.
My father was the Salvation Army Officer there at the time, Captain Garland Pearce. I have two brothers, Alvin who is older and Tony who is younger. I remember a lot of things about Winterton and I have never been back except for one visit after we left there and moved to La Scie.
The things I remember the most were: The Hippies who came to town and painted the Salt Box house all colors.
The brook/river running through town.
The popsicles that you could win a free one with.
Playing by the water.
Swimming in the watering hole up the brook.
Picnics in the summer and playing up on the hills.
It was a great town to be a kid in.
I don't remember my teachers names now... I think that one of my teachers names was Brinson but I am not sure. I know that I really liked my Grade 3 teacher.
It is nice to be able to go surfin the net and reminise about the towns I lived in as a child. I now have two girls of my own. My oldest is 19 and my youngest is almost 15.
We are coming to Newfoundland for a visit this summer to visit family.
