I was a 24 week baby and weighed 2 lbs, 10 oz. I had clubbed feet and had to have surgery right away to correct it -- because of my soft bones, I got incredible correction and you can hardly tell I had problems. I also had asthma and very bad allergies as a child, but grew out of the asthma. I grew up to be two inches taller than my mom and the same height as her mom. I took all advanced classes in school and have a BS in biochemistry and an MBA. I am very lucky to have had great doctors and a great mom.

I am a very proud mother of a preemie also. Nikkie's 8 yrs old now. She was born 2 weeks before her due date. It was really nerve racking to take care of such a small baby, but I was only turning 20 yrs old back then. I guess I did a good job though. She was as big as a throw pillow back then..look at her now! So big and a very responsible sister to her baby sister.

My daughter was born 8 weeks early. Thankfully there are no problems at all with her. I love your site. Great info.

I'm 41 years old and had two miscarriages before our precious Noah came along. Noah was born at 28 weeks weighing in at 1 lb and 9 ozs. Currently still in the hospital NICU. But besides the set back of a UTI and apnea and hernia he is on room air and is up to 3 lbs and 7 ozs and has blonde hair which I can't believe. Noah was born early because of Restricted Growth because of my preclamsia and high blood pressure. But, they say he will catch up when he is around 2 years old. It has been a tremendous struggle surviving this far in the NICU. I guess the main thing I would remind everyone is that you are the only advocate for your baby. Don't let anyone else convince you otherwise.

my story is amazing and a pure miracle. in may last year i found out that i was going through a miscarriage i didn't even know i was pregnant.i went for a d&c and 3 weeks later i realised i was pregnant again. i went for a scan and found i was 3 months pregnant which means i probably lost 1 baby and my little son was left behind. 4 months later i start having contractions and realise im 10 cm dialated but due to the fact that my water havent broken the doctor decided to try and suppress my labour for 24 hrs. she thought i wont last a few hrs but i lasted four days!!! she said she never seen that before in her entire medical history. my son was born a whopping 1.040kg. he spent 52 days in neonatal and only needed 30% oxygen for the first day of his life and was weaned of by the second day. he know wheighs 5000kg and still looks a little tiny. thankfully he is one little fighter who insisted on beating the odds to make it into this world...

My daughter was born in 1985 at 23 1/2 weeks gestation, weighing 1 lb. 4 oz. and was 11 1/2" long. She was on a ventilator for 3 months and came home on her 'due' date (4 months old) weighing 7 lb. 11 oz. There were several times we thought she wasn't going to make it but she always pulled through. She was a real fighter. Always moving around the incubator. She hasn't had any long term difficulties. We're really thankful to the staff at Vancouver Children's Hospital for guiding us through all the stages of her development. She is graduating from college this year and then going on to University to study Archaeology/Anthopology/Geology. She even took academic Math in High school...apparently that's a rarity for premies. We're so proud of her!!!

I am a mother of a son who was born at 29 weeks. He weighed 3 lbs 7 oz and was 16 in long. I was admitted to the hospital at 24 weeks with premature labor and recieved steroid shots for him, then was put on full bed rest at the hospital for 5 weeks, when I finally gave birth. All the doctors said he would be mentally and physically disabled but after only 5 weeks he was able to come home. He is now 7 months old and is doing more than most 7 month olds. He is definatly a miracle from GOD.
