I am a first time grandmother and know nothing about preemeis. my grandson a gift from GOD was born 4 day's ago. and was 36 weeks and a day when he was born. Nothing about this pregnancy indicated a problem. I had to deal with the pain of not only my son and his wife but the fact that a little life in my arms was depending on me to keep it all together. This has been the hardest thing for me to do. my son is 20yrs old and never had a child in his life. When they took him in such a hurry to NICU I feared the worst. He was put on O2 @ 4ltrs my hreat fell to the floor and my son broke down I had to keep the faith and reassure him that as long as we keep letting him know that we are there and not leaving him alone he will survive. I am a stong believer of the KC studies and this is not from reading the stories but from what my heart tells me to do and encouraging my son and daughterin-law that thats is the way to take this on he will survive. In the last four day's he has gone from up's and down's but this day has been the most hopefull he was allowed to be held in his mothers arms and my son was able to feed him through the tube and change his diaper. This baby has shown us he is aa fighter and we will fight for him. I have spent 15yrs of my life working with the medically fragile child ages ranging from 3-11yrs and I think that thios has prepared me for this day of being able to handle this situation with a great stride but, I am still not sleeping and having a cry here and there so that my strenght is given to them. I speak to our gift from GOD every chance I get and as often as they let me touch him and help with his care in the NICU so that he does things like open his eye's and breath and eat and survive like he has thank you for these stories and letting me share in the triuph of his life. My heart is sad but my soul is working on helping him survive.

There are some amazing stories here! I don't think I have ever had the courage to share before now. It has been quite some time but my heart aches every time I think about it. I have two boys - now 6 and 9 years old - both born at 29 weeks each weighing 2 pounds 7 ounces. For my first son, I had a wonderful pregnancy up until I went for my scheduled doctors appointment and he told me to go straight to the hospital as I had pre-eclampsia. A very long story short, I ended up being air-lifted to a huge university hospital and had an emergency c-section less than 24 hours later. I was critically ill with HELLP Syndrome and my baby was fighting for his life. After 6 weeks in the NICU with many complications along the way we took Liam home with a feeding tube still in and a heart monitor weighing only 3 pounds 10 ounces. Once at home, he did amazing! Very small but healthy and growing bigger and stronger every day! Almost 3 years later we had our second son. Labled a high risk pregnancy from the beginning, I spent from 24 weeks on laying on my left side in the hospital! With much less drama than the first, Kyle was born via c-section at 29 weeks. He spent 7 weeks in the NICU. Collapsed lungs, chest tube, head bleed, blood transfusion. It was deja vu! We were experienced parents to this and he came home weighing over 5 pounds. My younger son has had some complications related to the prematurity - developmental delay, speech and language issues, Sensory processing issues (which I positively attribute to the unwillingness of the NICU doctors to allow us to Kangaroo Care - skin to skin. Kyle was two and a half weeks old when we first picked him up!), ADHD and social issues. We have been on top and he has had early intervention in all areas. They are such a blessing! There have been many challenges along the way but I do everything I can to give them the best possible start! Liam is a smart, well adjusted 4th grader and Kyle is about to begin Kindergarten. For a kid who basically didn't speak until he was 4, he is making up for lost time! Such a sweet boy!
