Have hope! Twenty One years ago in 1986, I was born premature as a 25 weeker. Born in March and was expected in July. Only a whopping 1 pound 11 ounces with a 5/100 chance of survival. Family support, caring doctors, surgures and many prayers pulled me through! I wish the same for every other premie out there! May they survive, thrive and experience the best in life.

I was 27 weeks when my water broke we held the baby in 1 more week. My father in law passed away on April 13, 2007 & Olivia Rose was born on April 15, 2007 on his birthday. We said if she had to come early we are glad it was his birthday to honor him. She was born 2lbs. 2oz. 14.8 in long. Today is her 3 week birthday & she is up to 3lb 4oz. 15-1/2 inches long. She is off her c-pap & on regular oxygen. She is still on her bili blanket but we hope to get her off of that soon too!! Other then that she is progressing good. I would love to her from others going through the same thing. God bless you & your families.

I had no idea that I would deliver a 2lb 13 0z baby girl. I had a realtively normal pregnancy and every ultrasound and test that I had was fine. So, at 31 weeks when my blood pressure was up at a routine check up, I thought it was no big deal. I take X-rays for a living. I have all of this medical knowledge and I knew to keep a check on it. I checked my blood pressure only 2 days after my check up, I immiediately called the doctor. It was way too high. I was admitted to the hospital for observation, and they were content with that. I requested an ultrasound because I felt that something wasn't quite right. It was then they told me that my baby girl was 1 lb 8oz and had less than 3cm of amniotic fluid. (normal ammounts of fluid is around 12cm) they also said that she had good breathing motions and I would probably have to stay in the hospital and on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy. The next day, things had gotten worse. She was not breathing as good as she was before and despite all efforts to increase the amniotic fluid, it had not changed. I was sent to another hospital with a NICU and was told that my baby would have to be born the next morning. During the C- section, When the doctors pulled her out, she cried so loudly that the nurses could not hear the doctors. She stayed in the NICU for 14 days and became known as the "picky one." she kept pulling her feeding tube out, and would not keep the oxygen on, and kept scooting around the isolette. They took away the oxygen because she did not need it. After the 5th time pulling her feeding tube out, they left it out and gave her a bottle. after 14 days in the NICU, we had to transfer to a step down nursery, because she was not sick and only needed to grow. She is such a little fighter. We spent 14 more days in the special care nursery before we brought her home. She came home at 4lbs 8oz, a month before she was due to be born. Now she is a healthy 6 month old, 16lbs and perfect. We are so blessed to have her in our lives. No one knows the joys and struggles and fears of a preemie parent unless they have been one themselves. Trust the doctors, but also trust your instincts. if you feel something is wrong with you or the baby, don't be afraid to ask or get a second opinion.
