My twins were born at 29 weeks on Aug 8, 2005 due to ttts and Christian quit growing. Ashton, Baby A weighed 2 lbs and 13 oz and was 15 1/4 inches long. Christian weighed 2lbs even and 13 inches long. Ashton has been fairly healthy for the long term. He has had rsv a couple of times and was in the Nicu for about 2 months but came home healthy. Christian was in the nicu for a little over 3 months. He had trouble gaining weight for a long time and could never get off of oxygen. He ended up having to have bilateral hernia surgery when he was 2 months old and only weighed 2lbs 15 oz. He went through the surgery fine but he developed MRSA and stayed on a vent for 2 weeks in an isolated room. We lost 3 times after surgery. That was the lowest point in my entire life. When he came home he was on a nasal cannula and a heart monitor. He stayed on both until he was about 7 months old. Christian kep having trouble and everytime we would go to the hospital they said he had pneumonia, he was delayed in everything. He couldn't sit up until 13 months and didn't walk until 17 months. He wears glasses because of nstaymus....not sure of the spelling. He has been diagnosed with scoliosis (once again spelling), and torticollis (spelling). Last summer I finally got a referral to Columbus Children's Hospital because of Christian's "pneumonia" and asthma problems, and his chest bones pertruded from his body. Turns out he had a diaphragmatic hernia since birth and no one could tell. He had surgery and pulled through well. He has been diagnosed as Failure to thrive since then and is on Growth Hormone Shots. He also has a tonsilectomy and his toungue clipped. Please Pray for my baby. My Twins are my world and God gave me twins and I am determined to keep twins!!!!

My baby was born at 33 weeks and was in the NICU for 36 days. The longest 36 days of my life. When you looked at him you thought that he would do so well and be home in just a couple of weeks because at birth he weighed over 5lbs. You are never ready for this. Its was the hardest day of my life to be discharged from the hospital w/out my baby in my arms. Not sure why I went into premature labor but he was coming ready or not. He is the perfect child. Minor complications. I know that God has blessed me and He got me through the last 5 weeks and He will see me through the next 20+ years. I am so thankful. Going through this made me so much stronger in my faith... God is bigger than anything and He never puts anything on you that you cannot handle... God bless all of you mothers that have premature babies. We will make it.

i was born at 23.4 weeks gestation. I was 1 lb 8 oz. I stayed in the NICU for 4 months. I came home without o2, was off the apnea monitor in 2 weeks and my eyesight is good. Now, I'm 7 months old (adjusted age 3 months) and I don't have to do my nebulizer treatments any more, I laugh and smile and like to "talk". My mommy says I'm a miracle baby

Wow, I certainly wish your website was around 19 years ago when I was born, my parents would have definately used it. I was born 4 months premature, and weighed 1 lb, 5 oz. When I was younger, my dad decided reading the wall street journal to me aloud would help, and I'm guessing it did, since I've never really had any learning problems at all, up until college, when I found out I had to actually study for tests. I decided to research a bit on preemies and was suprised I only fit a few of the categories that many preemies go through. I only have very minor cp, which I feel when lifting weights (my right side is stronger than my left side), and have some slight balance issues. I also tend to day dream quite a bit, but that's not so much a bad thing. I received my AA in my last two years of high school, was placed in advanced classes all through my school years, and am currently a Junior Biochem major at EWU, and am hoping to go into forensics. I just thought I'd post to share a little bit about myself, and to say that preemies can do anything anyone else can.

My son was born in 1985 at 26 weeks gestation, weighing 1 lb. 12 oz., or 800 grams. I'm writing this to give hope to those that are currently dealing with preemie issues. My son was extubated after 3 days and stayed in the hospital 2-1/2 months. He went home 2 days after bilateral hernia surgery and went on to gain 1 lb. per week after he got home. He was in the 99th percentile on height and weight for years. He has a couple of slight learning disabilities and has been aflicted with asthma from 6 months old. He's always worked hard and graduated at the top of his high school class. After moving out-of-state his asthma has pretty much been non-existent. Today he is slightly small for his age...almost 23; is 5 ft 10 in and weighs in at 125 lbs. In December he will finish his BA at an out-of-state university, and will teach severely disabled kids. There is hope. A good support system is crucial, and I couldn't have done this without faith in a Heavenly Father. These children are special and have been given to us for their care. All we can do is the best we can, and love them. Good luck to each of you.
