I had Preeclapsia and it started to severely effect my liver. I was C-Sectioned right away. My son Keegan ( 4lbs 14 oz and 18 inches) was born at 32 weeks and 3 days. The week before they had given me steroid shots. What a difference that made. They pulled him out and he immediately began to scream. I cried. I was so afraid that I wouldn't hear him cry for a long time. He's been in the NICU for a little over a week and he has grown leaps and bounds. I am going to try Kangaroo care in about an hour, in hopes of getting him to feed from a bottle. Thank you for this site, I feel inspired.

I HAVE 3 1/2 YEAR OLD BOY GIRL TWINS THEY WERE BORN AT 27 WEEKS 2 1/2 LBS EACH. BORN 11-14-2005 DUE DATE WAS 2-7-06. THE SAME DAY I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT W/ TWINS I STARTED BLEEDING. DR SAID I WOULD PROBABLY LOSE ONE OF THEM. I WAS NOT WORKING AND I WAS ON BEDREST I WAS A MESS. AT 19 WEEKS I HAD TO HAVE A SURCLAGE DONE. I HAD BEEDING EPISODES THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE PREGNANCY, LAST TIME HAD BRIGHT RED BLOOD WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM THATS WHEN I WAS DIAGNOSED W/ PLACENTA PREVIA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEEDED TO DO AN EMERGENCY C-SECTION. AT JUST 27 WEEKS I WAS HORRIFIED WHEN THEY TOLD ME THIS. WHEN BABY A WAS DELIVERED I LEARNED SHE WAS A GIRL AND BABY B A BOY VERY EXCITING I DID NOT FIND OUT WHAT I WAS HAVING UNTIL THEY WERE DELIVERED. ANYWAY THEY WERE WISKED AWAY FROM ME I DID NOT EVEN GET A GLIMPSE OF THEM VERY DISTURBING TO ME BUT MY REGULAR OB DID NOT DELIVER THEM ANOTHER OB THAT I NEVER MET DID.THEY WERE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR THREE MONTHS EVERYDAY SOMETHING NEW WOULD HAPPEN EITHER FOR THE WORSE OR BETTER SO BE PREPARED FOR THIS ROLLERCOASTER RIDE. IN THE END EVERYTHING TURNED OUT FABULOUS! JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT THEY ARE EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT AND THEY ARE AVERAGE SIZE ON THE GROWTH CHART. THEY HAVE NOT NEEDED ANY SPEECH OR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY. SO FAR NO COMPLICATIONS AT ALL. NOBODY WOULD EVER KNOW THAT THEY WERE PREEMIES. PLEASE IF YOU HAVE A PREMATURE BABY GIVE THEM BREASTMILK EVEN IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLES IT MAKES SUCH A DIFFERENCE EVEN IF WHEN YOU START PUMPING IT HURTS DONT GIVE UP IT EVENTUALLY GETS BETTER AFTER 2 WEEKS I HAD NO PAIN AND I WAS PRODUCING A TON OF MILK. I GUESS I SHOULD MENTION THE FACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT TAKE MY BREAST SO I HAD TO PUMP AND FEED THEM W/ A BOTTLE. THEY WERE GIVEN BREASTMILK FOR ONE YEAR NO FORMULA AT ALL. PLEASE REQUEST THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO DO KANGAROO CARE W/ THEM. MY HOSPITAL DID NOT ALLOW THIS BUT WHEN I WAS FINISHED WITH THEM I GOT MY WAY. KANGAROO CARE IS WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR BLOUSE OFF AND PUT YOUR UNCLOTHED BABY DIRECTLY ON YOUR CHEST THEY LOVE THIS AND IT HELPS THEM GET BETTER. ALSO IF YOU GIVE BIRTH TO MULTIPLES REQUEST THAT THEY ARE ABLE SLEEP TOGETHER MY DAUGHTER WAS THE WEAKER ONE AND WHEN SHE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO SLEEP WITH HER BROTHER SHE STARTED SHOWING GREAT SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT. I KNOW YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR WORLD IS ENDING I DID BUT YOULL SEE THIS WILL ALL PASS AND YOULL BE ABLE TO BRING YOUR BABY OR BABIES HOME. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!!

My daughter Paige was born on Jan 27,2009 at 23 weeks 5 days gestation. She weighed 1 lb 2.5 oz. She came home on May 5th with oxygen and monitor weighing 4 lbs 7 ozs. She is definately a little miracle. She had lazer surgery on both eyes other than that she has had no problems. She has been home for 24 weeks and now weighs 5 lbs 15 ozs. She is such a good little girl. She is lifting her head more and more every day and is actually trying to roll over.

Hey All!! I just wanted to reassure the parents of preemies- I was born 3 months early in 1982 weighing 1 lb and 8 oz. I was a twin and William weighed 2 lbs 5 oz. but his lungs were not well developed and he died after a couple of days. I struggled the first year or so (though not as badly as some preemies). My mother heard from many doctors that I would have all kinds of problems. However I am now 27 yrs. old graduated high school with honors, got a Bach. degree, work for a non profit organization and have my own family now. My mother believes that one we were blessed by God for my good health (I have low blood sugar and faint heart murmur and some trouble with arthritis but that's it), the nurses and doctors who worked with me, and to not setting too many limitations on me. Just believe in your child doing the best he or she can do taking into consideration any problems they do have and it will be fine. Each preemie has a different struggle and some have more than others. Just thank the heavens for your blessing, love it with all your heart and support/nurture your child to the best of his/her abilties. You can make it through the dark days and cheris the bright ones! Bless all your families!!
