Forgot to mention one really funny incident on the Kuppe. Early one morning there was an alert and as I rolled out with my full field gear I passed an Air Force SGT responding with his weapon firmly strapped to his golf cart and moving off to war! How well I remember Wasserkuppe. As a young Army Lt in 1958 I was sent to the mountain with some radio and multiplexing gear to monitor what was going on in the East Zone. Loved it so much that I always have Wasserkuppe installed in my flight simulators. Go to my web site and see "my version" of the Kuppe. At least it still lets me fly gliders at Wasserkuppe. 601st AC&W, OL #10 Hamm / Herbern. Did 307X0 @ Keesler and went to 601st in May, or June of 1959. Assignment clerk said "one of you go to OL #9 and one to OL #10. My traveling companion went to (9) Winterberg and I to (10) Herborn / Hamm, a mobile AC&W site commanded by Capt. Zastrow. There was a Lt. Burke and I worked for a Sgt. Bachelor. We were on seperate rations and ran a courier to 601st weekly. Would love to hear from others from that era. Best wishes to all peers
