Hello, Alistair. It's been a while since I last visited your site because, as you know, I've been hard at work on the book, "Objects in the Heavens," a deep-sky astronomy fieldbook for small scopes and binoculars. You were a big help in it's completion. Two of us will be heading 6 hours north of Chicago for (hopefully) 4 nights of viewing. The nights are shorter but the weather is nicer. Advice for new viewers: Use binoculars and a good star chart to become familiar with the constellations. Concentrate your viewing to only a few constellations per session. There's a lot up there. Don't get lost. Enjoy! P)

I am just dipping my toes in the water and gathering info on what to buy as far as telescopes are concerned and have just joined the Auckland astro society to hopefully assist in this search.

Bought a reflector today, my first telescope and an impulse purchase whilst treating my daughter to a Barbie fest in toys r us. I'm waiting for it to go dark and have no idea where to start, but this site looks as if it will alot of help. I will let you know how I get on and promise not to report observations of the street lamp nebula.

Great Site. I had a telescope in my early teens and dropped the hobby when I was about 16. I'm now 35 and have decided to get back into it, never really forgot about it spent time reading books and pointing things out in the sky when out late at night. I've been looking at buying a new telscope and was trying to find observations made with telescopes from the lower end of the telescope market. Your "sight" has provided me with all the information I was looking for and has convinved me not to buy a 114mm but to go for a 130mm. I think at these size's the extra will make all the difference. Keep up the good work and I promise to contribute once my new scope arrives. Kevin McCarthy.
