my dad, ed rutherford, served in D company in the 36th engineers. he went to basic in ft. polk in '66 then spent awhile in camp irwin california. shipped out for vietnam in late '67 on the john pope. he always said that he was attached to the 1st calvary at some place called "black horse". he left vietnam on may 7th 1968. he also call's the m-16 a "mattel toy".

I got to the 36Th in Sept. 66 I ship to VietNam in 67. Stayed a few weeks then send to the 86Th Combat Engineers Rome Plows. Wold like to welcome home everyone great job.
