Hello. I have posted a comment before but I would
like to know if anyone remembers Camille Williams.
He was at Wethersfield during the 1960's and dated
my mother Dusty who was a waitress at the NCO
club. Camille also worked as a cook at that time.
Does anyone remember them? I would also like to
see if Joe Rossi, who took photographs around that
time remembers either of them. Any information
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Jennifer

Updating my e mail address. I was in Wing Personnel when I first got there in 55, but was fortunate to slip over into P&C as a weddding present from LCol Johnson, Wing Personnel Officer. Stayed in contracting and retiring from civil service at Randolph AFB TX in 96. Married Margaret Turner from Halstead in 57 and will be celebrating our 50th this spring. Love to hear from any of the old gang.

I worked in POL from Mar 1974 to Mar 1977. The 66th had 166 GI’s and everyone knew everyone else’s name. It was a great assignment. Moved and built the POL gas station building. We chipped and painted the entire tank farm, filter, pipes, and buildings. The spy plane U-2 came over during this time. POL (5 of us) received 1000 drums of JPTS, which we tore apart drop tank pallets for dunage. Drums came in 55 gals parked inside cargo containers, two high. We did this during Christmas of 75. The U-2s came painted in a special blue color, which was supposed to be the color of the Germany’s sky. For the 200 year USA Centennial, 66th had a big party and softball game. It was really cool when we heard that special whine of a U2’s engines and saw it just over the dorms top, coming straight at us. It then pulled up and when straight vertical over the softball game. It was great. The base was special because we had the best base softball team in the UK. The arm of Jack ??? He was a Comm weenie, as well as most of the team.
The winter of 76 saw the most snow, I think ever. Me and “Z” was sent to RAF Alconbury to get two refueling units to bring back to RAF Wethersfield. When we got there we were told to take off back to Wethersfield, a big snowstorm was coming. I asked if the truck was checked out and was told yes. Z got the R9 (new with diesel engine) and I got the R5. We race back and Z took a short cut. In Cambridge my engine blew-up, no oil, near the College and Hospital. I called Wethersfield and they said they would send a 4-wheel fire truck to get me. It never came. I don’t want to hear the USAF never leaves anyone behind. I called again and I was told to go to the hospital and they would put me up. I told the base my furniture was going to be packed and shipped back to the states tomorrow. No help. I started walking and thumbing back to Wethersfield. I caught a ride all the way to the back gate. The nice guy who picked me up had to get to his insulin, so he braved it. Alconbury tried to hang me for the engine blowing up. They said the truck inspection card showed it wasn’t checked. Alconbury’s POL NCOIC remembered telling me it was, so I was cleared. Z never saw me, so he thought I was ahead of him, so he kept going.
I was one of the two airmen to close the base when it was turned over to the Brits. The chow hall closed next to our dorm. We lived on the second floor and had the whole dorm to our selves. Lucky for us the RAF had a deployment come in and they let us eat there until we booked back to the States.
