Hello again, this is such a great meeting place. In 2002, I put a message on about the buses that took English girls to the base dances from towns in Essex, (see page 33) At the time I lived in Southend-on-Sea and my sister Pat & I went on a number of occasions. As a result of that message I received many emails from personnel who where there at the time, one of those was from a Ron Donaldson who was 17 and a bit of a rebel (his words). Ron & I spoke on the telephone as well as emails over the years and got to know each other. He was such a straightforward man who loved his wife, family and grandchildren. He loved England too and was a Royalist. Last year he had a diagnosis that was not good and last month whilst I was visiting my sister in California, I received an email from his family saying he had sadly passed away on March 16, he was 65. He will be sadly missed, unfortunately I do not know what outfit he was in, but want to thank you Bob for allowing me 5 years of friendship with Ron.

Just doing some research into the base's past with the intent of setting up staff briefings and maybe a memorial to servicemen who lost their lives flying from this base.
I am a civilian instructor with the UK Air Training Corps. We currently operate Viking T.1 gliders, offering air adets their first soaring experiences and training all the way through to become our new instructors.

I was stationed at RAF Wethersfield from May 1961 to May 1964. I workded in the Base Finance Office (Travel Section). I retired from the Aif Force in 1978 as a SMSgt.
