I am the granddaughter of a GI stationed at Wethersfield around 1943. His name was 'Dimples Del' Evard Bowing (or something like that - perhaps Boeing or Boughen or Bowen). We think he came from Dakota where he lived with his mother.
He met Ivy Freeman in Braintree Essex and had a daughter Susan with her in Nov 1943. He had contact with Susan until he left for USA in 1945. I have no more information about my grandfather than this. I would love to hear from anyone who can direct me to perhaps a list of servicemen during that time or anything else that would help.
Thanks for reading this.

My Dad was stationed there as his last active duty base before he retired July 1975 to July 1977.He was with Det 2166 Comm SQ. My best friend, Chris Welch and I met there and still are friends 33 years later. I remember all the walks to Finchingfield, going to Uncle Sam's Pond and picking blackberries by the old bomb shelters. I remember all the dances at the AYA and spending the Bicentennial at "Patch" when the Fire Dept set the baseball field fence on fire while setting off fireworks. I remember during the summer all my friends would make homemad etents and sleep out and when our paretns went to sleep we would slip out and meet up. Chris and I are still looking for some of them: Suzanne Charleston, Greg Nelson, Lindsey Edenfield,Remi May, Chuck Hayes and his brother Greg. I would love to see all of them again or at least have contact. When we were all there it wasn't an active base any longer so there wasn't any aircraft and the silence was beautiful. We did end up having some F-4 phantoms there right before I left and from my bedroom window 490 Cannon Circle I could see the after burners light up when they took off.
