In 1980 RAF Wethersfield was activated one more time. Our unit had no designator, our operation was later called Desert One. We reopened the Control Tower and set-up a mobile RAPCON to support aircraft on a special JCS directed mission. A few days after we got there, the ATC services were operational, and the runways cleared of sheep. Most of the seven-level ATC folks were from various Air National Guard units, and the five-level folks came from USAFE units in Germany.

Hi everyone,
I was stationed at Raf Wethersfield as a crew chief from 1965-1968 with the 77 TFS. My friends called me Gus becaus my last name is Giusto and I would enjoy communicating with old friends from both the 77th and the 55th. My days at Wethersfield hold my most precious memories. I miss those days and all the friends I ran around with. Take the time to drop me a line....

1966 to late 1970. Security Police squadron. I was there to almost see the base closed. I have often wondered how folks from the security police squadron have succeeded since their days at Weathersfield. Please drop me a line and let me know about you. I spent 33 years in law enforcement with most of it in Colorado. I was a police chief for 25 years in two different departments. I am semi retired now, doing national security check background investigations. Relatively healthy for an "old guy". Jack

Hi Michael Wayne. Just read your posting 7/20/08. You must have replaced me on the
outpatient clinic night shift. I rotated home 12/4/65. See my first posting on pg 121. I retired from USAF after 3 yr, 8 mo, 3 days. Wish I had a time machine to go back and do it again.

Updating my info from years ago. Worked in 20 Field Maint Sq Maint Office from 1963-66. Worked with Capt Teat, then Major Nordlund, CWO Connor, remember Lt Wilchusky's arrival, Oliver Larry was my co-worker. Drove yellow 1968 Chevy Belair, then 1963 Spitfire purchased from Capt Teat. Handled Performance Reports for all the guys in maint shops from AGE to Base Flight. Also issued gas and booze coupons. Best 3 years of my 23 miliary career and haven't enjoyed myself as much since. Retired 1978 and worked on Capitol Hill in DC at a historical assn for another 28 years. Retired for good 2004 after serious bypass heart operation....still kicking. Best to all and always glad to hear from anyone who remembers me.
