I don’t know why it took so long to begin to look for things associated with my Airforce service in the UK. However, I was delighted when I stumbled across this site and ended up going through each and every entry to see if I knew anyone for the period 1964 to 1967. It seems the APs and Crew Chiefs are much more IT savvy than my former associates in A&E. I ran across an entry from John Baumgartner and believe that was the only name I recognized, although I did not know him well. The A&E squadron was small and comprised of Auto-pilot, Fire control, and Aircraft Comms.; so we didn’t get a chance to bond with many of the other people on base. However, I can remember it as if it were yesterday. I suppose that’s the way it is with things you enjoyed. I am sure it wasn’t always great, but you seem to remember pleasant events and tend to forget bad times. I remember fondly, lots of Wheelus deployments and a squadron exchange to Germany. Although I found it amusing, I try to forget the weak attempt that the base Commander made to build a golf course between the active runways with only shovels and rakes. I try to forget that I only made $222/month as A1C. I do remember very well that even with that little amount of money, I still bought a new VW1300, could afford rationed gas, spent week-ends at “the Smoke” at a favorite hotel in Paddington, near the Douglas House and never had to “flog” rations to afford it. While there, I went to the University of Maryland, I was the President of the Airman’s club, was the barracks chief (so that I could get a private room) and had an opportunity to play on the dart team for the Dog Inn; Speaking of which I will always remember that Jack and Kay Cutting would make me tomato soup for lunch when I was hung over and sick. A picture of their Salon bar with all that polished brass is hanging in my house, along with my silver “pint”. A little personal history on myself; I will be married to the same lady for 40 years this December 7th. She was born in Redding but I met her after I came home to the states. Her mother was a war bride and she grew up a California girl. I have two grown daughters; a son-in-law who is a Doctor and Chief Resident of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, my other son-in-law has his own business in wealth management in Washington and finally, two brand new grand-daughters (one from each of the two families). I will be 70 years old next March. Everyone thinks I am 55 (just taking me longer to grow up, I guess) I retired from AT&T in 1998 after 32 years, continued to work in the communication sector for another 10 years with Qwest Communications and I am currently managing a large Government contract for General Dynamics. Thanks for the opportunity to recall a major period in my life, one in which I probably formed my direction in life. I am happy, wouldn’t want to do it again, but have few regrets. I hope many of you feel the same.

77th jet shop 1955-58. We worked our butts off transtioning from F-84's to F-100's. Ann Harris from Braintree was my girlfriend. Contact me if anyone knew her. Best assignment of my 21 year Air Force career. The 20th reunion in Ft. Walton Beach,Fla. was great. Was great to meet Harley Phillips again after all those years. To all who served at the base we all share many fond memories. Ann Harris is unforgetable.

Still looking for Frankie (Frances) and Bill Doll. Bill was stationed at Wethersfield in the sixties. He married Frankie (my best friend) in late 1965. After attending our wedding in 1866, I believe Bill took her back to America with him where they had a daughter Debbie. I last saw Frankie when Debbie was a toddler and then I came out to Australia. I would love to be in contact with her again...I think of her often. Possibly Michigan but Bill originated from Chicago.

My father was an All-American quarterback for Wethersfield, England in 1962 and I would like for my father to be reunited with some of his old teammates. The team played for Coach Jack. My father's nickname was Pye.
