I have DSAP and was surprised and delighted to see that information is available. I am 50, have not avoided the sun over the years and have numerous red lesions on my legs and arms. The lesions developed slowly over the last 5 years but increased dramatically when they were treated. My derm. prescribed Retin-A; Effudex/Dovonex; and Soriatane. The Soriatane caused my fingernails to become thin and flaky, I got itchy all over and it nearly drove me mad(since d/c my nails are in better shape and itch has gone. I was just starting to search for cosmetics that will diminish the redness. If I find anything I will let you know. I am adopted and am not aware of my biological medical history. Feel free to e-mail.

Interesting topic. I notice the Author speaks of misdiagnosis, which leads me to say...I have something that looks similar ,but in fact belive they are AK's...MANY on a background of severe photodamage..I am YOUNG folks...Not much sun exposure history at all ..What happened is ,I was taking a phototoxic drug and got two severe ,SEVERE sunburns ,had to be treated in the hospital, these lesions started developing after the two severe phototoxic burns...And I never let the sun touch my skin now,yet I continue to get more AK's ...There are studies that show phototoxicity to medicine can promote DNA damage to the extent that the p53 tumor suppressor gene is effected therefore skin has no way to repair itself once the damge is done..THEREFORE the lesions LOOK like AK's because they are~ anyone had severe burns while taking any medication ,over the counter or otherwise???? The LIST is long ,for drugs that cause phototoxic reactions...Email me if you'd like more info, been researching it for years since this happend to me and I EVEN educated my derm Doctor on this~

I'm a white male, 42 years old. I've had dsap for more then 20 years. I had two different doctor's biopsy lesions to be sure.It first developed on my forarms when I was around 20 or so. I faintly remember a few spots when I was still very young. It now covers my entire body. Everywhere, no body part is now clear.

I am a male with blond hair and will be 40 in February of next year. I was diagnosed with DSAP about a year ago. I have shown signs of (red) skin irritations on my arms for about 10-years now, but no doctors could ever figure out what I had.
Like you, I have tried just about everything but have had no success. My last treatment was "Blue Light", which did make my spots less red and smooth. In fact, both my doctors were very optimistic as I was the same. However, my first time being exposed to the Summers sunlight, even though I used sunscreen, red spots reappeared as they were before and even spread to areas that were not affected before.
I appreciate the information you have provided on your website. I will certainly try some things you have suggested.
Hopefully there will be a cure for DSAP one day.
Sincerely,
Webb Riley

I'm very impressed with your website and agree completely with your findings. Over the years I have treated many patients with DSAP with various products. The only product I have had some success (average about 50% improvement) is with Dovonex. I prescribe the ointment in the night and the cream in the morning since it is not as greasy. It does take a motivated patient since it takes many months and makes the lesions look more red until the treatment is stopped. I plan to recommend your site to my patients. Thanks.
