I have been researching my family history for about 15 years now and recently have embarked on recording the stories of family members who fought overseas (about 50 in all). I have moved on to one particular leg of my family who are of indigenous background. Both of the chaps I was looking for were listed on your nominal roll (Eddie and Eric Ruska) which I was pleased to see. I am not sure if you were aware but these men were brothers of the famous aboriginal poet and activist Kath Walker nee Ruska (aboriginal name Oodgeroo Nunuccal) who achieved quite a deal for our people from Stradbroke Island. You have a great site here, hopefully it will inform the younger generations of the sacrifices which have been made for them!

I was named after my uncle Paddy Breen who was a member of the 2/26th and who died on the railway. I have a copy of the Battalion history and have read it three times. Thank you for the info in the book.

Ron is my great Uncle. Know him very well, have read his book and visited Singapore and visited Changi prison and memorial. Enjoyed the site. Whilst I have chosen civilian service, What Ron and his borther Mervyn(RAAF) did for me and this country remains with me everyday. Especially those who lost their lives at the hands of the japanese after the fall of Singapore. I recall that Ron was in the Singapore hospital when it was attacked and managed to survive

Hi
I woke up this morning remembering my grand father, Leslie Henry (Jerry) Fitzgerald. I had researched his service history quite extensively about ten years ago, but it occurred to me this morning that I had never "trawled" the internet (other than N.A. and A.W.M.) for anything on the 2/26 Battalion 8th Division, so I was very pleasantly surprised to find your excellent site. Congratulations. I will make a copy of Jerry's photo for your gallery. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Regards Vicky Francis
