My Grandad was a member of the AOFB.
I have his booklet and his cufflinks. I also have numerous photo's from the period with him, cigar and beer in hand in several of the woolwich/plumbstead meetings.
Just thought I would do a google and found your site :)
Good job sir.
Your round ;)

The Oddfellows Arms in Milford Street, Salisbury was renamed the Frothblower's Arms in about 2000. Has a case of memorabilia in the bar. The pub was taken over by the Red Lion Hotel next door and the current owner's grandfather was a member of AOFB.

I recently found a membership booklet in a secondhand bookshop. the membership card No. is 490254 and it belonged to Stanley D Newton, 187 George Street, Glasgow. There is little to date it except the accounts are dated from 9th Sept 1924 - 28th Feb 1927

I knew an AFOB member until he died aged 93yrs in the early 1970's. He gave me his membership book and silver cufflinks and I have photos of him (He married in 1896 and his wife used to say he was a real boozer)! Looked everywhere to find more about AFOB and have just found your web site.

What a splendid organization! Three disciplines that I subscribe to; charity, beer & frivolity.Sadly, because of geography,I may belong to the "...pussyfoot hornswogglers from overseas..." (Perhaps members of the Colonies might be accepted?) I would surely join. Surely.

Hi,
I've often thought of resurrecting the AOFB, though I doubt that the production of solid silver members-only collectables would be viable!
I first came across the AOFB because I collect Bonzo the dog memorabilia and Bonzo's creator, English artist George Studdy was himself a member of the AOFB. He even drew a postcard of Bonzo holding a frothing pint of beer and used a corruption of AOFB's favourite saying: "The more we have together the merrier we will be" as the title.
It's also interesting to see how the membership book contents changed as membership grew and the huge number of trinkets offered for sale to members from cufflinks to silver cigarette cases to travel items - even the ladies from the Fairy Belles had their own bracelets etc.
resurrect it - we may not earn much for charity but get enough beer golloped and would we care....of course we would!
Cheers,
Reg
