The USMC hat you describe as a "slouch" hat is called a "campaign hat" in the U.S. Marine Corps and is of solid, fixed construction with an un-moveable brim. For at least the last 40 years it is only worn by Drill Instructors.

My father was in Changi until 18th May 1943 then shipped to Japan. He only servived 9 years after war leaving a wife and 3 children.I'd like to find out more about his time as POW.

Austrailia's fighting men and women accomplished amazing feats during World War II and they deserve all the tribute we can pass on. When I read about the fighting, trekking and living conditions along the Kokoda Trail I am awe struck.
