I should like to put on record the following excerpt from my grandfathers remembrances of The Great War.He wrote this, he was a reporter, soon after the war ended in 1918, at the opening of Australia House in London,
"...as volunteer amateurs they (the Australians) have taught even the super professionals amongst the enemy what fighting can mean. Fighting ability in the soldier was never in the history of war seen in higher power than throughout the Australian advance last autumn."
PS: The Gallipoli donkey soldier, and his donkey, are commemorated by a bronze statue in his home town of South Shields in the UK.
Also,I am proud to say I am the Gt Gt Gt Gt(?) nephew of Sir Henry Parkes.

Now that Australia has its own VC would it not be an excellent idea, althought of course posthumously, to award it to "Weary" Dunlop. I am surprised he was not awarded our VC after the war for the work he did whilst a prisoner of the Japanese in WW2.

I have just found my grandfather John Gordon Brown prisoner ID 609 from Penang, within the Changi database. If anyone knew him or has heard stories of him either at Changi or Penang, I'd love to hear from you. My grandfather had 3 sons, Alan, Leslie and Gordon. Alan & Leslie were rubber planters at Dublin, Harvard and Linden estates and my father Gordon worked for AA Anthony & Co in Penang & returned to Scotland in 1970. If you have any connections with my family please get in touch. Ewen in Scotland

When I was a small child (I am now 74yrs old) my fatherwas serving in the same forces as RegSaunders, and we went to an open day at the army base...well I got lost, Reg Saunders had found me, and he had brought me an ice cream, I was sat on his shoulders and my mother always told me how the ice cream was dripping down the face of this wonderful man who had found me !! I treasure this story and have told it to my children, gr'children and now grt gr'children....god bless Capt Saunders....my father always said he was the best officer he ever served under.............

Hi. The badge indicated as for the Canadian Veterins Corp, is that not for the Canadian Veterinary Corps. That is how it is dascribed in both Mazeas` books. This is a VERY good website.
