I love your website, it is a great tribute WWII history. I have recently obtained my grandfather's olive green tunic, badges, ribbons, and several caps from his service in the US Army in WWII, and I have been researching these items. He was a 2nd Lieutenant, and served as an assistant warden at several of our military prisons. What is interesting is that many German POWs were housed there and gave him patches and pins from their uniforms, which I have now. The prisoners also made several wooden toys for him to give my mother when she was a baby. It is amazing how the Nazi war machine as a whole was as evil as it was, yet many of those prisoners were young boys who did not agree with, or want to be part of it, but had the choice of serving or death. He made friends with some of these prisoners, and they shared many stories from their prespective, and it was very interesting to hear him tell how many of them were thankful to be taken prisoner and out of the situation in Germany, and of course very thankful to have been captured by the Americans rather than the Russians!

I recently visited The VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MEMORIAL and am proad to be an Australian. My grandfather fought in this battle as part of the 60th and survived. He died before I was born however, I feel that little bit closer to him having visited.

Great site, my great grandfather Lieutenant Willian Braden 29th Battallion AIF was killed in the Villers Brettoneux battles at vauvillers. He is buried at Heath Cemetery and was awarded a Military Cross after his actions in battle in Morlancourt. He is immortalised in the book Black and Gold which is a prize possesion of my families. Just a shame couldnt get his photo in it or have some lines attributed to him. Am immensely proud of his actions and what he did. Great site great publication. Peace.
