"In August [1942] a Red Cross ship came in from South Africa and for once the Japs almost played fair, sending us up about 50 percent of its cargo…Furthermore, from the clothing supplies of the Red Cross ship we all got a hat and a pair of boots." – Extract from "The Missing Years" by Stu Lloyd. This incident happened at Changi. To the best of my knowledge/research, there were Red Cross parcels and ships, however, for the most part, they were denied to Japanese P.O.W’s at most camps.
