"Those heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehemets to us, where they lie side by side in this country of ours. You, the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears, your sons are now lying in our bosom and are at peace. After having lost their lives in this land, they have become our sons as well." "Those heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. My dad, Matt Smith served with your mob and died 24 years ago. Since retiring from teaching myself, I have only recently began finding out about his war days, as he rarely spoke about them to us kids. I've spoken to Mum ( Lila ) from Bendigo and she gave me a copy of "Hold Hard Cobbers". I've had a real insight into a part of life Dad lived that I never knew about. Mum has just told me about the Bendigo reunion last week and I feel compelled to make contact with you to let you know how much I enjoyed Robin Corfield's book. Maybe it's not too late to one day catch up with some of Dad's old mates or their families, ( perhaps at a future reunion). Thanks again. From WEG's cartoon on page 325 I believe I am the son of Rasp!! Cheers, Marty.

Wonderful site, very informative. I am looking for any references to my Uncle, Fred Charlie Ernest who died fighting with the 6th Battalion AIF in 1916 in France. Does anyone have any information or photographs of these soldiers?

I am looking for information on my late father William O'Sullivan. He was also known as Scooter Sullivan during WW2. He served with the 31/51st Battalion and then 29th Brigade in Bougainville. Does anyone know of him or his unit?
