My father was a sailor stationed at Fort Allen from July 5, 1972 to July 14, 1976. I returned to the states at age 15. I was delighted to find your site. The aerial photos were great; I picked out my old house and other haunts.
You made my day.

Thanks for providing this great site. I was among the first group of junior enlisted to arrive at FA in 63. I thought that I had gone to heaven. The Army guys thought FA was a hardship posting but we thought it was great. Along with Eddie Smith, Gary Mason, Ray Barker, Tom Clark, Doug Grinder, Donnie Edwards, and others we hit every night spot from Salinas to Guayanilla. We always started or finished up at the Tulipan Rojo and alos spent many a night dancing at Elizabeths Place.......CUL Nick Wise, RMSN

I was in the army at Fort Allen in 1960 and first half of 61. It was still under construction at that time, in fact I don't remeber it being called Ft. Allen or any thing else for that matter. I worked nights at the NCO club. I ran the movie projector and showed a movie every night in the front yard of the NCO club. I had a great time in Ponce walking around the square and meeting girls. I also remember a great cafe-bar in Salinas.

I spent a few of my formative years at Ft. Allen...part of the first Navy contingent (63-65). I had a great time, at least what I can remember of it. Tom "big Dog" Clark and I spent a lot of time together in places like the Toolapan....phonic spelling of the gin joint close to the Fort....and other questionable establishments......here's to the memories....Ray

Just ran across this site while compiling memoribilia for a project I am doing for myself on my Navy years. Ft. Allen was the greatest duty I ever had. The sheer beauty of the island kept me in constant awe. Stationed in security from 1/1975 through 6/76. I remember TEX, and Maudie, Turtle and Mike, Lt. Leal and The xo's...oops....sssshhhh. We were to tall to tan and too good looking for our own good........hehehehe. I remember all the lush vegetaion and the abundance of tropical fruit growing all over the base and one of the largest Canepa trees on the whole island in out antenna field. I remember the storm we weathered and all of the houses washing down the stream in Ponce, and the water in town up to the rooftops. We all pitched in and helped rescue all we could. The Don Q distillery just across the cane fields. The mongoose we had to deal with. It was all superb times. Anyone from these times call me or e-mail me.
