hey guys, been a while since i have been here, but today i couldn't help it. I was listening to Bill O'reily talk about bourne ultimatum today, and suddenly i heard a voice i instantly recognized. It was Cody from Alaska, who called into your show every week. I can't believe you have been off the air this long, and the one time i hear someone talk about movies on the radio, there he is. Must have some kind of radar for this stuff. now that i am here, i think i am going to download the podcasts, and go through them again.

I just saw Hot Rod over the weekend (when Bourne Ultimatum was sold out), and I have to admit that it was better than I expected. I felt like a lot of it was channeling Napolean Dynamite, but that was plenty successful in its own right so they had good reason if that was intentional. In a way it was kind of like a really, really long SNL skit (considering the cast), but it had enough funny and weird stuff to entertain throughout. Has anyone else seen it yet?

well, i've been on vacation for a few weeks, so i've had some time to think... we are halfway through the year, so why not give everyone a chance to state their favorite movies thus far? here goes mine. 5. breach (chris cooper rocks!) 4. away from her (if julie christie is not nominated for an oscar, someone will die) 3. knocked up (really funny, what else can i say?) 2. ratatouille (pixar is genius, again --shocker there) 1. once (i haven't heard anyone else's take on this, but you must see it! it's so simple and innocent, yet it's the most satisfying film i've seen in a long time.) let me know your thoughts on the best films so far this year.

I finally saw the new Harry Potter and I have to say that I liked it the least of the 5 films so far. There was far too little about the Order of the Phoenix, and that was the title of the movie! They introduce the Order and a few new characters but they don't really go anywhere beyond that (aside from a 20-second scene later on), yet they still manage to fill 2 hours and 18 minutes with other stuff. In fact, it should have been called Harry Potter and the Rise of Dumbledore's Army because that was the real basis of the story. I have to admit that I haven't read the books, but for the first time in the 5 films I actually felt like the book would have filled in a lot of gaps that was I hoping to see on the big screen.

Meg, I am second to no one in my general dislike of Nicole Kidman, but I have to admit that she can be very good in the right role. The horror movie you mention, "The Others," is terrific, and she's even better in "To Die For," one of the funniest black comedies you'll ever see. I kind of liked her in the bizarre "Fur," but that's a completely strange picture, and I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. On the other side of the Nicole ledger, we have "The Hours," "The Stepford Wives," "Bewitched," "Cold Mountain" and "The Human Stain" just to name my least favorites. And she's got the fourth remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" coming up in August. Aarrgh!

Just in case anyone missed it, congrats to Roger Ebert who's back on the job. And Davey Edelstein has his very own website with pictures and everything. Can THE NEW MOVIE SHOW ON RADIO be that far behind? Anyway, for the record: I never bothered with THE SOPRANOS, so could care less how it "ended" but the very best ending for a television series has to go to SIX FEET UNDER. That was such a perfect ending the last show was better than the first. But I think you'd have to wash all six seasons to "get" it.
