Meg,
I think you'll like "Eastern Promises." It's one of Cronenberg's best and Viggo deserves the Oscar nomination he got for it. Terrific movie in every respect. And "Juno" is just as enjoyable in its way. I think Ellen Page has a better shot at actually winning an Oscar than Viggo. We'll be making our "official" predictions later this week or next. The various races are turning out to be a bit more complicated than I first thought.

Hi Randy, Watching the Grammy's, Aretha Franklin's on so I knew I'd have time to squeeze in a response. No, I haven't seen the new version of "Halloween" but I am looking forward to it. I love ALL movies, including the very bad ones and miss Max and Mike's reviews; a fantastic show and so informative too--love the callers. Trying to pick out some nominated movies that interest me, I got a copy of "Eastern Promises" with...(Mmmmm,) Viggo Mortensen, looking forward to this later this week!! Also looking forward to "Juno". Ellen Page is a dear. I recorded "Hard Candy" didn't see it yet. Check out Turner Classic Movies, this month is thirty one days of Oscar, fantastic!!

oops, I caught up on posts and blog(s). I see Oscar picks coming up, good. I just noticed Romero's "Diary of the Dead" is coming up this month. In fact, perhaps this Friday. Sirius radio has a three hour show called "Fangoria Radio" on Friday nights and they spoke of this movie and said it looks to be classic Romero. "Land of the Dead" was good but this doesn't look to have that kind of cast. We'll have to see.

I have been gone awhile but was glad to see the site still up and everyone still posting. Mine is short. Will there be an Oscar preview coming up? At first glance this looks like a difficult year to pick. Especially director. For Meg, have you seen the new Halloween? I didn't read all the posts. Sorry if you mentioned it. I read your penchant for zombie/vampire movies. I suspect that is just the tip of the iceberg. It was disturbing in parts but I put it on my "guilty pleasure" list.

I agree about Rambo. I saw it this past weekend and thought that it was a matter-of-fact action movie that got the job done. It's story was nothing compared to that of the first three (not that #2 or #3 were that good to begin with), but it has about 60 minutes of straight action that quite simply satisfied the audience.

Carol's movie is "Thunder In the Sun," a title that doesn't make much sense when you think about it. It's from 1959, stars Susan Hayward, and appears never to have been available on home video.

Does anyone know the name of a movie, that came out in the 60's about a group of French Basques on a wagon train headed west. They carried grape vines to start vineyards. Susan hayward or Ida Lupino may have been leading lady.
