In response to Mike's blog about "True Grit" being remade, I remember seeing the original when it came out in 1969! I normally do not like remakes, but the Coen brothers have shown me enough with their previous work for me to give this one a shot. Let's see what kind of bizarre aspect they add to it though because you know they'll try something...

Jim found the answer to his own question. It's "J.T.," a kids' movie made for Saturday morning TV by CBS in 1969. IMDb makes it look pretty good. That explains why it has stuck with Jim for all these years.

I have a real quandry. It is in the realm of TV - 1970's TV to be exact. It was a Christmas Story. I do not remember the name but would like to find a copy of it. It was about an African American Child in the Inner City. The program begins with the child stealing a portable AM radio from a car. The program focuses on the family and in the end - there is a scene on Christmas when the boy gets a kitten - a gift that he had wanted. The details are sketchy - it was over 30 years ago that I saw it. It was on television for several years then it disappeared. Wondered where it went. Thanks! -jim

Meg, Sorry to be so long in responding. I've been away and I've been obsessing over the election. Now I'm back and the election is over and I can think again. I'm not familiar with "Kwaidan," but it certainly sounds intriguing. According to IMDb, it's available on a Criterion DVD and those guys usually have excellent taste. They don't waste their considerable efforts on movies that don't warrant the work. Did you watch it? What did you think? Also, check out my blog on horror series.

Mike, as you sit in your luxurious movie lounge, sipping absynthe or a refreshment of choice, and sifting through the many movies, what movie for Halloween do you like? Tonight on Turner Classic Movies, "Kwaidan" (sp) is playing at two AM east coast time. I've never seen it but have heard good things. A collection of four ghost stories from 1965. I do miss you and Max, hopefully, you'll be back on the radio where you belong. Having a peanut butter cup and cocktail in your honor--HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

God, I miss you guys it's hard to imagine that it has been almost two years since you were last on the air. I still check out the site every know and then to read max's reviews and whatever new blog entries there are but it's still not the same. Any chance you'll ever be back on the radio?
