FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a 50th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at Sissonville Middle School.
As part of this celebration the fire department will be hosting a parade that will run from the Mormon Church parking lot in the 6900 Block of Sissonville Drive to Sissonville Middle School in the 5900 Block of Sissonville Drive. The department is inviting fire departments and emergency services organizations from across the area to attend and join us in our celebration. Line-up will be open at 9:00 a.m. and the parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. Awards will be given in the following categories:
Most personnel in uniform
Farthest distance traveled
Oldest member present
Oldest Apparatus
Best Mascot
Kids Choice as best of Show - this award will go to the department voted as "Best in Show" by our expert panel of judges all under the age of 12.
The department is also looking for civic groups in the community to participate as well - church groups, clubs, motorcycle organizations, civic organizations, local businesses, etc. - are encouraged to attend and participate. Bring your antique or classic car(s) and come on down and show it off! We do ask that no horses be in the parade unless you are sure that they can handle the sirens and air horns of the fire trucks and ambulances that will be there....
Following the parade there will be a friendly competition to help show the community what we do and how we do it. Prizes will be awarded in the following competitive events:
Midnight Alarm - consisting of going from street clothes to full bunker gear and SCBA in the fastest time
Obstacle Course - a combination of five (5) obstacles that will need to be navigated in full bunker gear with SCBA
Bucket Brigade - moving water from one source to a barrel using buckets
Tug-of-War - five or six person teams - open to the community
Ladder Carry and Climb - two (2) person teams picking up, carrying and raising a ladder, and then climbing it.
We want the community to share in our celebration and see the true spirit of the West Virginia Fire Service. We strongly feel that there is no greater community service than the fire, law enforcement, and EMS folks who serve in their communities every day.
There will be activities for kids, food, music, and lots of activities

Dana and Team, what a great website. The work you all are doing to revitalize the community is commendable. Your professional website coupled with the high caliber of your team members goes a long way when businesses and people are looking to relocate to a well established locale. WELL DONE, VERY WELL DONE! James Jr. (Jamie)
