I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. He was obviously a loving, devoted man who never gave up the fight in finding out what happened to Brian. I do not know your family, but know the loss of a child. My husband and I lost our only son March 25th of this year (almost two years to the date from when Brian disappeared). Our son, Adam was 16 years old. I know that had we been in the situation your family has been in for the last two and a half-years, we would have done just what your family did - look for our child - and never give up hope. Your family has done this and will continue to keep the hope alive that Brian will be found. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. You have been thru more pain and suffering these last several years than anyone should ever have to endure. God is with you, keep looking to him for love, support, and comfort. Derick, my name is Trina and I just wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to you. I can not even pretend to know what your heart is feeling right now, but I do know it is broken. After your brother dissapeard, your father spent the rest of his life looking for him with so many unanswered questions, and now they have all been answered for him, God has shown him where Brian is and your dad is now in heaven with your mom and they are watching over you, and if Brian is no longer on this earth you can be sure he was waiting in Heaven when your father entered and they are now at peace. I hope you can have some peace knowing your parents are no longer upset but they are rejoicing, and what nothing but good things for you, never give up the search for your brother, but find peace within your self. I have a group of friends that would love for you to know you are not alone and would love to be able to help you in any way possible, all you have to do is ask. May god bless you.

To all- I am so sorry to hear of Randy's death. I cannot express how much it saddened me to hear of this, even as someone who does not know the family personally. As a Columbus resident, I have been following Brian's case and praying for nearly the past two and a half years for his safe return. I am not the religious type, but since the beginning, Brian's case has really struck me and praying is the least I can do. The Shaffer family did not deserve this recent tragedy, and I can say that I too am asking, why? If there is any good that can come out of Randy's death, it is the prospect that he is in heaven with his wife. And perhaps he and Brian are together once more. I am so sorry to everyone, and you are all in my prayers.
